Charlie Kirk Shooting Suspect Identified as Tyler Robinson: Latest Developments

Authorities have officially identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Robinson was arrested in Washington County, Utah, following a two-day manhunt that involved over 7,000 public tips and surveillance footage.

Robinson allegedly fired a single shot from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away from Kirk’s event, striking him in the neck during a student Q&A session. Kirk was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries. The weapon used—a high-powered, bolt-action rifle—was recovered in a wooded area near the university.

According to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Robinson had “confessed or implied” his involvement to a family member, who then alerted authorities through a family friend. Surveillance images released by the FBI showed Robinson fleeing the scene, and his gray Dodge Challenger was spotted near the campus shortly before the shooting.

Robinson, who had no prior criminal record, was described as an unaffiliated voter who hadn’t participated in the last two general elections. He briefly attended Utah State University and had earned a scholarship based on a top-tier ACT score. While his social media presence was minimal, investigators say he had recently become more politically vocal and had expressed disdain for Kirk’s views.

He is currently being held without bond and faces charges including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. The case has reignited national debate over political violence, campus security, and gun control.
